    MINUTES:
    1) Welcome
    A) Meeting started at 8:40 a.m.
    2) Approval of the February Minutes
    A) Bev Martin made a motion to change the February minutes to reflect that Amanda Galaviz from the Rock County Juvenile Diversion Program will be invited to address the DPC rather than have council members visit the program.
    B) Minutes presented for motion to approve- Jim Schultz – 2nd - Don Battenburg – All in favor. Approved
    3) Guest Speaker/Topic: Stress and Teens, Dr Robert Klein of Family Resources.
    A) Melinda Moe introduced Dr. Roger Klein from Family Resources with offices in Watertown and Lake Mills. Dr. Klein described the services provided by Family Resources and reported that they employ an intern which enables them to provides services to families without insurance. Dr. Klein talked on stress and teens and how stress contributes to anxiety and depression. Dr. Klein talked about an anxiety reduction program for children (ready-set-relax) and for adolescents (relax-calm). He referred to his website for more information: www.innercoaching.com
    4) Director’s Report: Marvel Kelliher-Olstad:
    A) Reported that she is working with Jessica Breezer on the Drug Free Communities grant and expects it to be completed by next month’s meeting.
    B) Reported that business/industry sectors have been identified in the communities of Jefferson County that could work with DPC for strategic planning, and direction oversight and contribution as part of the grant requirement. Melinda Moe suggested members to reach out to businesses not currently involved with DPC to encourage collaboration.
    C) Marvel and a small group of observers are checking into the details of a “Plunge” event held in Grant County. The event is a mock crash site and inclusive experience that incorporates a wide scope of agencies, people and places that are all affected or impacted by a alcohol related tragedy. A couple of members expressed interest in becoming observers. Marvel will follow up with details on the event for consideration in our community as well. Some discussion about the mock crash sites with local police departments does take place currently. This event expounds
    on this event by incorporating hospitals, court proceedings, funeral homes, and more. The event is scheduled for April 15. Marvel will report after the event.
    5) Committee Updates
    A) Executive Committee: Melinda Moe:
    i) Reported that the CADCA conference attendance for Marvel and Melinda was canceled due to transportation and inclement weather. The conference continued but transportation inhibited their attendance. Marvel attended a grant writing workshop online which was one of the intentions for attending the conference.
    ii) Reported that the executive committee is working on a list of speakers for the remainder of the year based on the feedback from the previous meeting where specific topics facing our youth were listed.
    B) Membership: No Report
    C) Age: Birth – 5: Ashley Turner/Barb Gang
    i) Reported that there are 25 vendor participants for the fair and are expecting an excellent community attendance.
    D) Age: 18 – 21: Marvel Kelliher-Olstad
    i) Cindy Rushbrook, Community Coordinator for WorkSmart will be Chairing this committee
    ii) Next meeting to be held April 9, 2010.
    E) School Age/Intervention – Jessica Breezer:
    i) Reported that the committee will be focusing on expulsion and truancy
    ii) This committee will continue to mentor the Youth Committee as well.
    F) Youth – Jessica Breezer:
    i) They are currently working on organizing the all participant Dodge ball tournament on March 20. Approximately 80 students and spectators attended the tournament in Fort Atkinson on February 27. The next tournament will be held in Watertown on March 20. Adult volunteers are needed. Water was donated. Marvel suggested committee members attend and bring cookies.
    ii) They are also working on the Billboard campaign. They received 20-25 entries and have chosen a winner. Don Battenberg suggested asking the newspapers to run other honorable mention submissions as part of the community awareness.
    iii) Working on the 2nd Annual Youth Leadership conference. A tentative date of June 24 has been set. They are seeking a youth leadership speaker.
    6) Community Updates:
    A) Kathy Cauley discussed a Substance Abuse seminar to be held at the Lake Mills Municipal building on May 25, 9:00 – 4:00. Lunch will be available for $3.50. Richard Brown will be the key note speaker. Discussion will involve setting up a county wide substance abuse coalition. There is no charge for the event, however people should register. A brochure about the event will be sent out via email.
    B) Chief Tim Roets from Watertown Police Department reported on their alcohol compliance check program. To date they have checked 30 establishments with a 78% compliance rate. Gail Scott reported that tobacco checks are managed by a three county coalition and paid for by the WINS grant. They have reported an increasing compliance rate.
