    Welcome and Introductions
    A. Meeting started at 8:30a.m.

    V. Directors Report:
    A. Parents Who Host Lose the Most (PWH)
    1. Marvel attended a meeting with CESA 2 in Milton. Marvel is completing the application to register Jefferson County as an active county for this campaign. This affiliation will provide us the free resources. We will be placing an order with the application to request stickers for distribution to schools and communities. We will be working with local pizza delivery stores and more to place the stickers on their boxes and bags.
    2. Yard signs are still available. Jefferson county sheriff’s department is a big consumer of the signs so far. Watertown schools distributed at parent-teacher conferences.
    3. Fact cards and parents notice cards are available. Marvel encouraged people to use what we have and request more if needed. It’s better to have this material in the community than sitting unused.
    B. Motivational Productions to present to Lake Mills and possibly Fort Atkinson schools and community on Feb 17, 2010. Fearless is the desired production. A demonstration was held to preview the beginning of the production.
    1. It was presented to consider additional opportunity for a community presentation in the evening.
    2. Follow up curriculum is available to instructors
    3. Johnson Creek would like to participate as necessary to get people from there to a possible community evening event.
    VI. Council Work Groups:
    A. Council conducted a breakout session to work in 3 groups covering 4 topics.
    1. TOPIC #1: Council Sustainability/Membership Development
    a. Identify missing populations
    i. Law enforcement officers, school liaison officers
    ii. Religious community
    iii. Representatives of the Latino community
    iv. Parents
    b. Identify reasons for these population to attend
    i. Give and receive ideas on how to impact youth in Jefferson Co.
    ii. Learn about available resources in Jeff Co.
    iii. Determine their interest before inviting them to a meeting
    iv. Survey these populations
    c. Recruiting methods
    i. PowerPoint presentations about DPC to service organization
    ii. Word of mouth
    iii. Written invitation/hand delivered
    iv. Hold separate, special meeting for new members or prospective members to intro DPC and listen to their ideas, needs and concerns.
    2. TOPIC #2: Fund development
    a. Partner with agency and organizations to use resources instead of duplicating (ie: PWH CESA; free materials, when DPC purchased them initially)
    b. United Way
    c. Member participation and resource utilization
    i. Some discussion on membership development and conference using free technology ie: skype to provide additional, cost and time efficient means to attending meetings
    ii. Grant research: to include ARRA / Stimulus money if available
    iii. Human resources: ie: develop a volunteer list for members to be active in other ways than attending a meeting
    iv. Fundraising events: golf outing, annual banquet, celebrity wait, and request donations
    3. TOPIC #3: Identify missing populations:
    a. Child In need of Protection and Services C.H.I.P.S. workers
    b. Jefferson school district
    c. Whitewater schools
    d. Waterloo schools
    e. Johnson Creek schools (Don is very attentive, need others as well)
    f. Community organizations
    i. Rotary
    ii. Kiwanis
    iii. Lions

    g. Need to identify a news writer

    4. TOPIC #4: Marketing:
    a. Advertise/market our successes
    b. Consistent and feature articles in local paper
    c. Newletter to businesses
    d. Designate writer
    e. Talk to student groups
    i. Student Council
    ii. National Honors Society
    iii. D.E.C.A. Delta Epsilon Chi (an international association of high school and college students studying marketing, management and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality and marketing sales and service)
    iv. SADD
    f. Develop faith based community relationships
    g. Enhance school board relationships
    h. Local TV Channel promotions
    i. Work with Chambers of Commerce (partner with other Chamber members, ie: Opportunities Inc.)
    j. Reconnect with existing members
    i. Determine why they are involved and ask for a referral
    ii. What drew your interest in DPC

    iv. How to they want to be involved
    v. Barriers to participation, meeting attendance
    k. Anniversary Celebration (Theme: reducing delinquency and success since 1997)
    The Council had an excellent discussion with a great ideas and participation. Thank you.
    VII. Committee Check In:
    A. Executive: OJA grants were denied. Both we presented very well.
    1. School Based Teen Count denied due to not meeting the grant criteria of “Alternatives to Secured Detention” DPC grant submission is a preventative measure prior to secured detention
    2. Juvenile Teen Drug Court was written well but denied. The committee will continue to work on seeking out other funding sources
    B. Birth-5:
    1. Handbook for Help. English version is printed. There are 250 copies available. Bev Marten requested copies for JCHSD. Spanish version is in the translation process. We will advise when that is available.
    2. Contact Abby Hail at (920) 563-2437 if you would like to request copies for distribution.
    C. School Age/Intervention:
    1. Meeting after DPC to discuss youth committee direction
    D. Youth Leadership:
    1. “Where’s The Party” events are being planned. 1st events are dodgeball competitions between schools. First event is being held 12/12, with monthly events thereafter. Schools are very interested and kids are signing up. March will be a tournament with all schools
    2. Billboard / Poster campaign. Students are working on developing the criteria for a billboard contest. All submissions will be reviewed by the Youth Leadership committee. Content is positives facts from search survey results
    3. Working on www.whoocares.com teen site. Many excellent ideas and momentum is coming from this committee and is bringing new energy to DPC
    E. Gang:
    1. Summit 2010 event planning is underway. March 16th at WFDC in Jefferson is the location. Committee members are looking for interested members to help with some of the tasks, ie: registration, set up etc. Please see contact Kris Feggestad if you are able to help. (920) 261-8444.
    VIII. Other Organization Updates
    A. Dialog for Student Success: Jim Schultz reported the next meeting will be held on 12/11/09 from 9a-11a at the Watertown school district offices. Topic: High School reform
    B. Marvel welcomed email notifications from members to share event information from other organizations.
    C. Run From the Cops: Capt Mark Meddaugh reported this event raised $3200 for PADA to bring awareness to domestic abuse. It was an excellent event. The event attracted participants from throughout the community and officers from Milwaukee.
    1. The event organizers would like to have this be an annual event.
    2. They are looking to develop a new logo.
    3. They will be inviting High School students to design the logo and t-shirts for next year.
    4. They are also looking at a possible pancake breakfast fund raising event.
    D. Alcohol Compliance Check Update: Capt Mark Meddaugh reported that the first round of checks resulted in 100% compliance. The community and communications for this program have been very positive. Training for all servers in Watertown has been completed with an exceptional response. All data details will be recorded by Watertown Police Department and shared with DPC.
